Who’s watching the Super Bowl?
The sporting advertising event of the year is just around the corner! Super Bowl Sunday is February 6th! Let’s spend some time this week talking about all things Super Bowl ad!
First of all, I am a statistics. I am one of the 15% of Super Bowl watchers who will be watching it for the commercials, according to a recent survey by Lightspeed Research, a unit of WPP’s Kantar. While 70% of male surveyed will be watching the game for the game, near 20% will be watching it just to socialize, and another ~10% will be watching it for the commercials! It comes as no surprise that a higher percentage of women will be watching the game for the commercials – 1 in 5! The survey also revealed some more interesting cut on the data. Of those who are of the age group 18-34, only 45% will be watching the game for the actions on the field! 17% will be watching it for the commercials! No wonder Super Bowl has became the advertising event of the year! It’s a great opportunity to reach some of the most attractive demographics! And they are not Tivo-ing the commercials out! In fact, they are anticipating them!
It does take some time to build up the anticipation. In fact, it takes years. The most anticipated commercials are the ones from Anheuser-Busch, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, GoDaddy.com, and Doritos. These brands have been placing commercials during Super Bowls for years. Like all things, consistency builds trusts and relationships. Super Bowl commercials are no exceptions. Consistently air great commercials during the game, people would come to look forward to watching your commercials during the game. In this day and age, such attention is priceless.
